Food & Culture Experience

Quick answer

We take you to the Sichuan dishes locals actually eat — proper hotpot, mapo tofu, dandan noodles, zhong dumplings and street snacks — and we order and translate for you, including spice level and allergies. We can also sort a People's Park tea-house afternoon and tickets to a Sichuan Opera face-changing (bian lian) show.

Chengdu is a UNESCO City of Gastronomy, and the best food is in tiny, cash-shy, Chinese-only spots that first-timers walk straight past. Beyond the famous mala hotpot there are gentler classics — sweet-water noodles, dan dan noodles, mapo tofu, zhong dumplings, sticky-rice snacks and the ritual of a long afternoon in a tea house with a cup of covered-bowl tea and a loud game of mahjong nearby.

We plan a tasting route, order the right amount, adjust the spice, flag anything with peanuts, offal or Sichuan pepper, and explain what you're eating. Prefer culture to chili? We can build the day around a People's Park tea house and an evening Sichuan Opera face-changing show instead. Vegetarian and halal-friendly options can be arranged with notice.

Good to know

  • The price covers one meal with us; food cost can be included in a set price or paid at each stop — your choice. Opera and show tickets are extra.
  • Tell us about allergies in advance; Sichuan kitchens use a lot of chili, peanuts and Sichuan pepper (the numbing 'ma').

Ready when you are
